International Volunteer Day

WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY?International Volunteer Day - Dec 5 - Graphic

International Volunteer Day recognizes the contributions of volunteers worldwide. In 1985, the UN General Assembly mandated that Dec. 5 be celebrated as International Volunteer Day to encourage giving time in service of others. Volunteerism cultivates a sense of community while expanding the reach of charitable organizations.

On International Volunteer Day demonstrate how "a neighbor can help a neighbor" by pledging your time and talent to one of the many charities participating in the 2019 Combined Federal Campaign.

Learn more about CFC Volunteerism.

Since 2017, federal, military, and Postal personnel have had the opportunity to pledge volunteer hours to participating charities through the Combined Federal Campaign. Last year, 125,000 volunteer hours were pledged through the CFC! That's the equivilant of about 14 years of volutneer service!

Finding a charity to volunteer with is easy when you use the online Charity Search. Simply enter your location and check the “Volunteer Opportunities Available” box to sort through the charities. If you are reading through the physical Charity Listing, organizations with volunteer opportunities are identified with a hand icon.

When you make your pledge, opt to share your contact information so that the charities can reach out directly to you with volunteer opportunities. If you do not share your info, you will be responsible for contacting the charity to fulfill your pledge.

Campaign workers should visit the Spirit Week Toolkit for additional marketing resources.
